UPDATE ON SATURDAY, 29th AUGUST AT 11:37 by Angie Skelcher, Secretary
—
Our Statement of Accounts for 2019, the AGM Agenda, a copy of the Minutes of the AGM 2019, and a copy of our proposed new Constitution have been circulated to all paid-up Members, by email or post — together will full guidance and instructions about online attendance at the AGM, which takes place on Monday, 21st September at 7:30pm over Zoom.
The formal AGM will be followed by an informal discussion amongst members about the nature and future of the Group, and then by a showing of a selection of short films on a local history theme.
Please note that you must be a paid-up member of the Group in order to attend the AGM (and therefore vote) or vote by proxy.
ORIGINAL BLOG DATED 6th AUGUST by Maggie Strutt, Newsletter & Publicity
I regret to have to say that the Committee has been obliged to decide not to hold any more physical meetings of the Group until after Christmas. Even if the Government permits such gatherings, the Covid-19 restrictions and requirements, eg maximum 20 people at our largest venue, the Waterloo Centre in Leiston, make such meetings impractical and economically unviable. So it has been decided that for the time being our meetings will have to be held virtually, via Zoom. We had a ‘Zoom’ meeting in July, attended by about 20 members, and apart from a slight technical problem (which has now been resolved) it all went off very well, and was not at all difficult or intimidating.
The deferred Annual General Meeting will therefore be held on Monday 21st September at 7.30pm via Zoom. You will be sent the Agenda at the end of August together with joining instructions, and will be able to vote by proxy if you wish.
Apart from the usual presentation of Accounts and election of Committee, you will be presented with a draft new Constitution to replace our existing Rules – which had been built up over the years by sundry amendments in a rather hotchpotch manner. You will also be asked to approve a proposal by the Committee that existing members will not have to pay any subscription next year.
You are also reminded that there are vacancies on the Committee, and we are seeking to fill these with members who wish to take an active part in the running of the Group. We are particularly looking for a Programme Secretary (in the hopes that we’ll some day be able to have a programme of speakers!) and a person or persons to help out with Publicity and the Newsletter. If you would like to offer your services, or propose another member, please let our Secretary know.
