Sue Gibbons, a Fellow of the Society of Genealogists, and their former Librarian, will be speaking to us on 15th January at 2:30pm on the important subject of "Conserving your Family Archive".
At short notice, Sue has stepped in to replace Chris Broom,
who has had to postpone his previously advertised talk on "Getting started in Family History".
Sue outlines general principles for keeping things safe and in good condition, with detailed advice on caring for original documents, maps, books and other paper items, photographs, etchings, paintings and textiles — as well as inherited objects such as furniture, jewellery, ceramics and toys. She suggests how to preserve your digital heritage as a book or on a website — whilst planning for what will happen to it all after your death. Finally, she passes on some trustworthy sources for further help and advice.
Members as usual @ £1.00, Visitors welcome @ £3.00 including tea/coffee and biscuits.
No need to book – just turn up. Good, free car-parking.
Paid-up members can also 'attend' over Zoom, by following the email sent earlier that day.
Please log in by 2:25pm, when the Zoom 'waiting room' will close,
to prevent disruption of the talk and discourtesy to the speaker —
though it would be even better to see you in person!
