UPDATED ON 26th OCTOBER
—
On 16th October, we were delighted to welcome back (over Zoom) professional Genealogist and Author, Gill Blanchard. Her presentation did not solely focus on the suffrage movement and the important role played by women in World War One, but extended to their significant work in education, nursing, housing, business and politics. Read a fuller talk-report here.
POSTED ON 12th SEPTEMBER
—
On Monday 16th October at 2:30pm, we are again joined by Gill Blanchard, who has entertained us on previous occasions with house history, but this time she will be talking (online) about "Struggle and Suffrage in Norwich: Women’s Lives and the Fight for Equality", based on the research for her book published by Pen and Sword Books in 2020.
There was more to women’s history than just the suffrage campaign and women’s war work. Gill looks at the broader context of women’s achievements in education, work, marriage, relationships, health and maternity, poverty and housing — as well as their involvement in political parties and campaigns for social and legal reforms, including the right to vote — through the lives of the well-known, and the not so recognised.

Gill last spoke to us over Zoom in 2022 about "Tracing a House History", as well as in person in 2017 on the subject of "Black Sheep in the Family". Both days were marked by unusually hot weather, so perhaps 16th October will prove to be unseasonably balmy!
