Online 2020 AGM over Zoom

AVSFHG event

REPORT ON OUR AGM

Twenty-one members attended our much-delayed AGM via Zoom on the 21st September.  We were very pleased to be able to welcome Alan Jordan from Hampshire, who otherwise would not have been able to attend.  There are some advantages of online meetings, another being not having to take the car out on a dark night — and, of course, being able to enjoy liquid refreshment!

Di Mann, who had been Chairwoman since 2017, felt she could not continue in that role because of her ill health.  Chris Broom was elected Chairman, and Jan Lovell was elected Vice Chairman.  Other members of the Committee were re-elected, with the exception of John Last and Henry Mann who wished to stand down.

A new Constitution was approved unanimously, and, because of the disruption caused by the pandemic, the meeting agreed that membership subscription fees would be waived in 2021 for those members who had paid in full for 2020.  You can download a copy of the new Constitution from here
.

The report above also appears on the front page of October's Newsletter 50.

Our AGM, originally scheduled for 20th April, will take place on 21st September at 7:30pm over Zoom.

The formal notice has been sent out to the paid-up Members, with joining instructions for the online meeting and the Accounts for 2019.

Apart from the usual presentation of Accounts and election of Committee, you will be presented with a draft new Constitution.  It is to replace our existing Rules, which can be viewed here, that have been built up over the years by sundry amendments in a rather hotchpotch way.  You will be asked too to approve a proposal by the Committee that existing members will not have to pay any subscription next year.

[BOTH THE PROPOSALS ABOVE WERE AGREED AT THE AGM.]

You are also reminded that there are vacancies on the Committee, and we are seeking to fill these with members who wish to take an active part in the running of the Group.  We are particularly looking for a Programme Secretary, in the hopes that we’ll some day be able to have a programme of speakers(!), but we already have several talks agreed, awaiting the resumption of physical meetings.  We are also seeking a person or persons to help out with Publicity and the Newsletter.  If you would like to offer your services, or propose another member, please let our Secretary know.

You can read a report on our 2019 AGM at avsfhg.org.uk/events/view/52.
